I'm wondering how long it will take Dempsey to catch on to Sawyer's brilliant idea of the "High Five". The high five is not a new invention. On the contrary, it has been around for decades- long before Sawyer ever was.
The significance of the Sawyer High Five is that it is the method by which Sawyer gets Dempsey to move toward or away from things. Here are a few examples:
1. Granny, Sawyer, and Dempsey went for a walk around the block. Dempsey started becoming a tad defiant and not progressing towards the house. So, Sawyer ingeniously started telling him "Dempsey, high five... high five." Well, Dempsey being so proud of his ability to fulfill brother's request would move toward Sawyer which was also in the direction of the house.
2. Just now, from my bedroom where Sawyer was having a "movie night", I heard Sawyer say "High five, Dempsey. High five!" I could tell from the sounds and the tone of Sawyer's voice that Dempsey was messing with something he shouldn't be and it was bothering Sawyer. Sawyer kept speaking that phrase and Dempsey kept obliging which led to the stopping of current problem and peace and harmony existing again.
Sawyer came out just now and I asked him "What was Dempsey doing to make you say "high five"? He told me Dempsey was messing with a cord that hangs under our mounted television (speaker wires).
This is just another example of Sawyer's brilliance! I am certain that elder siblings have created some geniusesque methods for getting junior siblings to obey/ behave. In some instances this could be considered manipulation but since I know Sawyer's heart I know it's not that in the negative sense. I'll give him a few years before I change my stance on this. :-)
