Christmas Day

After a completely full and wonderful Christmas day in which he was
blessed beyond measure, here are a few tid bits of Sawyer's wisdom.
The first comes from his bed time routine with Jake. The second comes
from his prayer time with me.

"Can you give all those people a big hug for me since I can't give
them any more hugs right now. Lord, can you give them back the money
they spent on the gifts so they can have it back..."

"... yes, my heart is so happy that it can almost split in two... then
someone else could have a copy of my heart."

Lord, you broke the mold with Sawyer. He is special and we see that.
Help us to guide him in the path that YOU have laid for him. Help us
love him and teach him in ways that speak Your love into his heart

It's good to know advertisements are lost on my son. He came in
talking about this creation he invented with an Iron Man toy he has.
He called this invention the Weaponizer Walker. What a name! Right?!

Anyway, he remarked that be'd seen an advertisement for a Transformers
but it didn't really have the guns. He asked "Why do they make videos
like that? Oh, I guess it's because they wantto make money to buy
other stuff."

I said "Yes, they want to make money off of you."

He replied "Thankfully i'm not gonna obey those!"

Salvation!

Tonight Sawyer said "Did you ask the Holy Spirit to live in your
heart?" "Yes." "I wan to do that."

I went and got Jake.

I had Sawyer repeat what he told me. Pride.

We had Sawyer pray and it went mostly like this:
"Dear Lord, I pray for that you would send Jesus to have the Holy
Spirit live in my heart so that I can go to Heaven forever. Thank you
for the life you give me."

Heart weaps with joy.

It is so easy for kiddos! Praise God.

Don't Grow Up!

Tonight Jake was snuggling with Sawyer in the chair/ recliner when he
told Sawyer "You smell." Not having recently farted, Sawyer thought
Jake was kidding. Jake was serious. Sawyer smelled like body odor.

Confused by that, I had Sawyer come to me so I could smell his jumper
jammies. Sure enough- BO smell. What?!?! I mean, sure, he wore those
jammies last night but BO? Really?

You should have seen us... our noses all up in Sawyer's pits. It was
comical! But he DID smell that body odor smell.

He's SIX people!! I refuse to "let" this happen this soon. Even
articles say it could start as early as 8-10 (pre-puberty) but my baby
is SIX! No! I will not have this.

All right, if I *must* endure this now I know what I will do. Instead
of going the deodorant route straight away I will have him start
taking zinc. After all, it has been said "If you stink you need zinc".
When we do go the deodorant route I will work to NOT use ones with
aluminum or metals. Crossing fingers the more natural ones work
although with a Y chromosome I don't know...

Khan Academy

Yesterday I created an account for Sawyer with Khan Academy. I'm so excited to start using this AMAZING tool/ resource with him to help him learn.

If you have never heard of Khan Academy I encourage you to go check them out! The basic info you need to know is that this site is video based. The idea for this academy stems from an uncle's desire to help his nephews learn math states away. Sal Khan, creator of Khan Academy, found himself trying to explain math principles to his nephews in another state over the phone. It didn't work out so well because they couldn't review/ replay what he had told them during their tutoring sessions. So, he decided to use what resources he had available to him. He chose a camera and YouTube.

He wrote out a few "scripts" of math concepts, recorded himself explaining the concepts AND writing it out for the boys to see, then uploading the video to YouTube so that his nephews could replay the video as much as they needed to in order to comprehend the concept.  This was wildly helpful for his nephews.

Thus, Khan Academy was born.

It has grown exponentially over the years to not only include math but other subjects like physics, humanities, economics, etc.

It's all FREE!!  So, spend some time on there with your student and see if this is a possible way our generation of digitalites can grasp a variety of concepts/ subjects.

Sawyer now weighs 56 pounds and is 48 1/4 inches tall!!

These questions were impromptu ones and I sense they are not as
accurate (based on my every day findings) as they would be if he was
not playing Toy Story Mania on the Wii right now. :-) The simple stats
are true as you can't argue with the numbers.

Jake has been teaching Sawyer about matching his clothes. Jake just
asked Sawyer, "What have I told you about stripes?"

Idaho and Future Family

As a family we were sitting in the living room watching Nanny McFee
and Sawyer blurts out the following

S: Mommy, would you be dead when I grow up?
Me: No... hopefully not. Why?
S: I was thinking, when I grow up and get married and have a family
can we go to Idaho and be with you?
Me: Of course you can, my love. We would love for you to be near us!

He just smiled his precious loving smile.

I'm beginning to think we'll go to Idaho one way or another because
now even Sawyer is talking about it in his out-of-nowhere comments.
:-)

I absolutely LOVE that he wants to be near us when he has a family of
his own. Such a sweet boy. Hopefully this sort of thing is what God
has in mind (in the best sense possible).

Evangelizing at the Park

The boys and I went to Parnell Park after our morning co-op ar Creek
Park was a bust.

At Parnell Park the was an extroverted girl who, although youngerthan
Sawyer, was eager to initiate play with him. Her name is Anna. A cute
little brunette all decked out in pink and completed her ensemble with
her doll.

At one part they were deciding what to do and singing so gs came up.
Sawyer suggested "Jesus is with Me All the Time". A song that he made
up. I checked. She was totally confused and seemed like the words were
foreign to her. At first I thought it was sad... then I realized,
Sawyer is planting seeds and he doesn't even know it. It's so natural
for him too. My cup overflows!

It's a bonus when children like my children and adults think they're good kids.

Euphoric Moment

Sawyer has been on a mandatory Wii fast. He's been doing surprisigly
well. Today I allowed him to WATCH Curious George on Amazon Prime
video. The look on his face and his reaction... looked like ecstacy.
Lol

He told me, "You're the best mom." As he walked away from me he said,
in a sweet voice, "It's too bad Jacob already married you."

Silly boy.

Poem: Little Boys Are

My boys bless beyond measure and challenge me just as much. One day our home is peaceful, blissful even… the next utter chaos. My boys make my world go round and give my life a deeper purpose.

To my boys, Mommy loves you so very much and I pray for you daily. May you never lose sight of what is important and Holy for that is what life is about. It’s not all about winning. It’s not all about happiness. It’s not all about getting your way.  It’s not all about the easy way or the easy things.  It IS about love.  It is about helping people improve their lives through Christ.  It is about thinking outside of and beyond yourself.  You are each one person who has the power of Jesus in them and that means you can move the mountains, my sons.  Keep drinking from the Living Water for sustenance and HE will carry you through. God writes the story… your story.  The valleys are just parts of the story just like the peaks are.  Take each in stride and be grateful for both in their turn.  You have my heart, my Loves.

Control Issues?

Sawyer is in tears with Jacob right now because I told Sawyer that I would be fine if Kamatz bit him or scratched him and made him bleed.

Why would I say such a thing?!

Because Sawyer is going through a phase of picking on/ hurting Kamatz for NO reason. I will NOT have this!

So, I play to Sawyer's weaknesses... blood, my disappointment in him, a spiritual plane (God's creation), etc.

That means there's now a bit of "good cop, bad cop" happening. Jake isn't negating anything I said but instead helping Sawyer understand WHY I said it.

Parenting at it's finest in my book.
